Fire Fighter since 1980

Two years with the Duncanville Fire Department.
Completed Paramedic Training January 30, 1981.
Joined the Irving Fire Department in 1982.

Prior to deciding to follow his dream to become a firefighter and paramedic, Mica was pursuing a career in the U. S. Army. He served in the Army from 1973 to 1980, stationed at, Ft. Hood, Germany, and Ft. Carson Colorado. It was while stationed in Colorado that he started taking EMT courses and became a Red Cross Certified instructor. In Colorado Springs he volunteered his off duty time teaching CPR courses for the Red Cross. It was also here that he first started college EMT classes and started working part-time on an ALS ambulance.

Mica has always been proud of being born in Dallas and being a fourth generation native Texan.

Captain Calfee has a Political Science, Bachelor's Degree majoring in Public Administration and Emergency Management (West Texas A&M University) and an Associate's Degree in Fire Protection Technology from El Centro College in Dallas.

He is a member of two scholastic honors fraternities.

In 1985, as a firefighter, Mica Calfee was early on the scene of the crash of Delta Flight 191. Later a movie, "Fire and Rain" was made about this event. Mica appeared in this movie in the role of a paramedic. To read his account of the rescue efforts of this day, go to:
